Building a Blueprint to Get Our Research Results to Those Who Can Use Them
Funding research that is patient centered and scientifically sound satisfies just one of our mandates at PCORI. We also must ensure that our research findings reach patients and others across the healthcare community to inform clinical practice.
To that end we’re working to determine the best practices for effectively sharing the results of our research with patients, caregivers, clinicians, and others critical to the clinical decision-making process. We invite you to be a part of that learning effort by participating in a webinar on Monday, July 29, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The webinar will include a roundtable discussion by experts on the dissemination and implementation of comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER) findings. We’ll have a public comment period during which you can provide input. Register for the webinar here.
The webinar is our first step in creating a Blueprint for the PCORI Dissemination and Implementation Action Plan for Research, which will complement our work with our dissemination partner, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). We will integrate insights from the webinar into a request for proposals (RFP), which we will release later this summer, seeking support for the preparation of the Blueprint. We also plan to convene a workshop in February 2014 of invited experts and stakeholders in implementation science and quality improvement to provide input as we finalize the Blueprint.
Questions to Consider
Through expert input and feedback from the public before and during the webinar, we are seeking answers to the following questions:
- Given your personal experience in dissemination and implementation, what are the lessons learned, barriers, and facilitators in successful spread and uptake?
- What strategies can PCORI use to build on or complement AHRQ’s current work in dissemination and implementation?
- What key elements would you like to see in PCORI’s Blueprint to help your organization with implementing research findings?
- What is the best approach to develop a framework for implementing results of CER?
- Which already existing frameworks would you recommend be reviewed for developing PCORI’s blueprint for dissemination and implementation?
- What are the key competencies we should seek among applicants interested in developing a framework in response to the RFP?
You may join or leave the webinar as your schedule permits. We encourage you to participate during the public comment period by phone or chat. You can also submit your responses through our website or by email to implementation@pcori.org. If you are unable to attend the webinar, you may provide comments via our website or email.
Thank you for your continued interest in helping us make evidence available that will guide patients and those who care for them in making better-informed medical decisions. Our goal is for the webinar and activities that will follow to be rewarding experiences for you as a contributor, as well as valuable sources of information for us at PCORI.
