GAO issues call for nominations to fill seats on PCORI's Board of Governors

Nominations must be submitted by May 4

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) has issued a call for nominations to fill seats on the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Board of Governors that will open as the result of some current members’ terms ending in September.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which authorized PCORI’s establishment, assigns the Comptroller General of the United States responsibility for appointing the members of PCORI’s Board. Under the legislation, Board members represent a wide range of healthcare stakeholders, including clinicians, health plans, and patients and healthcare consumers.

The GAO is accepting nominations for representatives in the following categories as required by the statute: physicians; nurses; patients and healthcare consumers; private payers; state or federal health programs or agencies; and pharmaceutical, device, or diagnostic manufacturers or developers.

New members are needed to replace Board members who will have completed terms ending September 2018 and are not eligible for reappointment. Board members’ terms are staggered.

The GAO also will appoint a new member to fill a seat previously held by Robert Jesse, MD, PhD, of the Veterans Health Administration, who died in 2017. PCORI benefited greatly from his dedication to improving the lives of patients and their families and from his intelligence and leadership as a member of the Board, PCORI Executive Director Joe Selby noted in a statement.

The GAO will accept letters of nomination and resumes submitted via either email or mail by Friday, May 4. Further information is available in this notice in the Federal Register.
