GAO issues call for nominations to fill seats on PCORI's Board of Governors

Nominations must be submitted by May 13
Published: April 1, 2020

WASHINGTON, DC — The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) has issued a call for nominations to fill seats on the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Board of Governors that will open as the result of some current members’ terms ending in September.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which authorized PCORI’s establishment, assigns the Comptroller General of the United States responsibility for appointing the members of PCORI’s Board. Under the legislation, Board members represent a wide range of healthcare stakeholders, including clinicians, health plans, and patients and health care consumers.

The GAO is accepting nominations for representatives in the following categories as required by the statute: a physician, a representative of patients and health care consumers, a representative of pharmaceutical manufacturers or developers, a representative of private payers who represents employers who self-insure employee benefits, and between one and three representatives of private payers who represent health insurance issuers.

New members are needed to replace Board members who will have completed terms ending September 2020 and are not eligible for reappointment. Board members’ terms are staggered. In addition, GAO’s call for nominations reflects revisions to PCORI’s Board composition included in the legislation containing a 10-year reauthorization of PCORI’s funding, which became law in December 2019.

The GAO will accept letters of nomination and resumes submitted via either email or mail by Wednesday, May 13. Further information is available in this notice in the Federal Register.
