Media Alert: PCORI to Convene National Patient-Centered Clinical Research Network Partners Jan. 21-23

Published: Jan. 16, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC—PCORnet, the National Patient-Centered Clinical Research Network, is a developing national electronic resource that will support faster, more efficient clinical outcomes research through the power of patient data. Representatives, including researchers, patients and other stakeholders from the 29 individual health data networks, who will form the “network of networks,” will hold kick-off meetings in Washington, DC, on January 21-23 to share strategies and best practices for scaling up comparative effectiveness research (CER) facilitated by this ambitious new electronic infrastructure. PCORnet is supported by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), which has invested more than $100 million to fund the build out and integration of 11 health system-based networks, 18 networks organized by patients and their partners, and the Coordinating Center that will make up the overarching national network.

Meeting sessions on the first two days will be hosted by the Brookings Institution and cover several topics:

  • Introducing PCORnet, the Coordinating Center, and Task Forces
  • Identifying core network research capacities
  • Improving patient engagement and enrollment in clinical trials
  • Overcoming barriers to exchanging electronic clinical data
  • Building a sustainable model for collaborative patient-centered outcomes research

The sessions will be accessible through a live webcast and will run from 9:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. ET Tuesday, Jan. 21, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Jan. 22.

A follow-on workshop will focus on the 18 Patient-Powered Research Networks, which are formed by patients and their partners to promote information exchange on a particular condition and find answers to improve their health outcomes. The workshop hosted by PCORI will provide a forum to share resources, learn from one another, and identify collaborative opportunities. The workshop will be accessible through a teleconference and webinar and run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET Thursday, Jan. 23. Registration for the webinar is available at this event page.
