Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute Holds Board of Governors Meeting in San Francisco
WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 25, 2013) – The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) will hold a public meeting of its Board of Governors February 4 in San Francisco. The meeting will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (PT) at the Hilton San Francisco Financial District. The meeting is open to the public and includes a 30-minute public comment period at 2:30 p.m. A webcast will be available for participants who cannot attend in person.
At the meeting, the Board will hear an update on PCORI’s first Advisory Panels, which will play a central role in helping the institute to prioritize and select specific research topics for each of its five national priorities for research as well as provide additional general guidance. The panels will include patients, clinicians, researchers, and other experts with the relevant experience and expertise needed to help PCORI advance its research agenda.
The Board also will review plans for PCORI to develop funding announcements on a set of specific high-impact research topics. PCORI has identified five such topics to consider for an initial round of Targeted PCORI Funding Announcements (PFAs): treatment options for uterine fibroids; treatment of severe asthma in African-Americans and Hispanics/Latinos; fall prevention in the elderly; treatment options for chronic neck and back pain; and obesity prevention and treatment in diverse populations.
Additional Board business includes reports on:
- PCORI’s strategic plan.
- An ongoing evaluation of PCORI’s research funding application review process.
