PCORI at 3 Years — Progress, Lessons, and Plans
We marked PCORI’s third anniversary last fall with a series of activities and blog posts offering various perspectives on our accomplishments since being authorized by Congress in 2010 and outlining what we hope to achieve in the years ahead. Today, I’d like to point you to an updated overview of our work – a just-published Perspective in the New England Journal of Medicine.
I’m pleased to have authored this article along with Steven H. Lipstein, MHA, Vice Chair of our Board of Governors. But the achievements and future plans we discuss are the work of the entire PCORI family. This sizeable community includes not just our Board, Methodology Committee, and staff, but all of the patients, caregivers, researchers, clinicians, payers, policymakers, employers and other healthcare stakeholders who guide and participate in our work. As we conclude in the article, “PCORI has laid an innovative foundation for producing and disseminating clinical research, engaging multiple stakeholders in the process, and embedding clinical research within health care systems and activated patient communities. Ultimately, our aim is to make research more useful and more likely to be included in health care decision making.”
I hope you’ll take a moment to read this Perspective – available in open access on the NEJM website – and let us know what you think about our work by posting a comment below or emailing us at info@pcori.org.
