PCORI Outlines Vision in Televised Interview

Published: Sept. 10, 2012

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) has an important story to tell about its mission to help patients and those who care for them make better-informed health care decisions. PCORI’s Executive Director Joe Selby, MD, MPH, and Board Members Gail Hunt and Robert Jesse, MD, had the opportunity to share that story and PCORI’s vision for the future of health research on a recent episode of BioCentury This Week.

During a four-part interview on the weekly biomedical news show, PCORI’s representatives described a unique approach to research that engages patients and stakeholders in every part of the research process. By using this approach, they explained, researchers can ask the right questions that will lead to useful results patients and their clinicians can trust when faced with choices regarding their care.

The interview also provided audiences with examples of how PCORI research can specifically support medical decision-making, discussed need for comparative clinical effectiveness research, and emphasized the importance of PCORI’s effort to establish widely accepted methodological standards.
